This is Dahlia. She’s one of the nearly 150 horses we have worked with over the years. When Dahlia arrived, she was more than 200 pounds underweight and near death. Originally destined for slaughter, she was bought by a family who intended to sell her for profit. But while they were waiting for a buyer, they didn’t see any need to feed or take care of her. And Dahlia was slowly starving to death. Today Dahlia is happy, healthy, and has a job! She acts as a mentor for new horses at the barn, helps teach animal control officers and others what to look for in neglected or abused horses, and is a patient and kind companion for children and adults.
Won’t you please help us restore hope in other horses like Dahlia?

That work sounds amazing. I hope the auction goes well, and gets them a lot of donors. And I hope that no one takes anything from them this year!
The story reminded me a little of a book I read about a lady named Kim, her husband Troy, and the ranch they run in Oregon. They rescue horses and children, the perfect combination for healing and hope for both. The book she wrote is called Hope Rising, and I hear she has yet another one out. You should definitely check it out, for it would be right up your alley for something to inspire you and keep you going during frustrating times.
